Something tells me this is going to be another one that gets quietly settled and Subaru corporate just shrugs and says ‘dealers are independent franchises! Fuck you!’

Franchises can be pulled for gross misconduct.

What an absolute cluster fuck.

They crash his  car, lie to hi m and then try to get his insurance to pay for it.

I’d be right onto a lawyer, have the car removed from them, taken to another Subaru dealer for assessment, get an insurance appraisal, then unleash the dogs of war on the other place.

I’d bring this up to NBC4 and get them to shame the dealership. I’m sure someone at Subaru corporate will take notice.

Never mind how outrageous all the rest of it is, I can’t imagine being so “not good with legal stuff” that I would’ve just rolled over and followed what the dealer had told me here unless fucking Reddit had told me not to. Everything about this screams “Sue the living fuck out of them.”

Why? You think Subaru has somehow cornered the market shitty dealerships?

Because of the heavy online presence of WRX owners, it’s actually really easy to get a hold of corporate reps for Subaru. Some of them even have profiles on NASIOC and will help solve problems there

This is making my blood boil. What was their endgame here? Try and fix it really quick and give it back to him hoping he wouldn’t notice? Has this dealer managed to get away with doing this before?

Every body involved in this at every stage needs to be fired, drawn, and quartered.

no, but that doesn’t mean a higher proportion of Subaru dealers aren’t  asshats compared to other brands. Back before I bought my SRT-4, I wanted to check out a WRX for the hell of it. dealer damn near wouldn’t even entertain the idea of a test drive w/o me signing a purchase agreement. and keep in mind I was over 30 and already driving a decent vehicle. The Dodge dealer, on the other hand, handed me a dealer plate and the keys. Ditto years later when I bought a Mustang GT.

Subaru of North America is actually pretty good about getting shit sorted for their customers when needed. I have seen tons of stories of Subaru NA stepping in and helping customers when dealers try to be scumbags. I doubt the dealer is going to get their franchise revoked but that manager is out of a job and the customer is probably going to get his car replaced by Subaru NA.

That might have more to do with the percentage of asshats that buy WRXs. Also, dealers aren’t exactly discerning when it comes to hiring sales people or sales managers, and turnover is high. I bought a Forester XT and a WRX when I was 22 with no issues. I’ve also owned various FCA products, and my local Subie service departments and corporate reps are orders of magnitude better than anything I’ve experienced with FCA.

However, my best dealer experience has been with BMW North Scottsdale. Might be because they’re a Penske dealership, but those guys have been awesome. They have always treated me well, and I’ve only ever bought used cars from them.

BMW corporate, on the other hand, are total fucking assholes who couldn’t give a shit about their customers.

I think the first option is correct. Most immigrants have loads of street smarts. Its an insanely popular website and r/legaladvice is particularly good at letting the common man know what to do . Most people have never been in a situation like this. I have to imagine that the OP is likely young and has no idea what his rights are, let alone what to do. Unless you personally know lawyers, who else are you going to turn to for advice?

Kinja'd!!! WiscoProud > Supreme Chancellor and Glorious Leader SaveTheIntegras

Someone dumb would have taken the dealer’s word and accepted what they told him. By realizing he didn’t know what to do, and reaching out for advice and calling the cops, he’s showing intelligence.

Exactly this. It would have been stupid if he took the dealer at their word. He already showed that he didn’t believe them, he’s just asking what to do next. He’s demonstrating wisdom by going to those with more experience. People who know the pitfalls to look out for.

Peo p le have little to no power when standing up to corporate entities, their combined knowledge and sheer force of will is extremely intimidating. I know I’d being going to every possible source of information so I could have an effective strategy to counter whatever shenanigans the dealer might try to pull.

You don’t need a lawyer to tell you what to do when someone takes something of yours, breaks it, then tell you to pay them to fix it.

My five year-old knows how to handle that situation.

She also knows better than to seek legal advice on a free forum.

Fighting with a dealership over negligence and the destruction of a car is a legal matter. Most people don’t have experience with legal matters. Reddit simply told him to lawyer up, call the cops, and not accept anything offered by the dealer. Pretty sound advice.

Kinja'd!!! Cash Rewards > DipodomysDeserti

There was an article about a similar scenario on the front page. You sign a waiver when you drop the car off saying any damages that may occur is not the dealer’s responsibility. I’m sure you can lawyer up and fight that on a scenario like this , but I’m sure the dealer is whipping out your signature saying you agreed it’s not their problem.
